In migration issues, Latvia is one of the leaders, Silina noted.
Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina stated on Friday after a meeting with other prime ministers of the Baltic states that many aspects of the U.S. national security strategy, which criticizes Europe, are positive.
She noted that since the beginning of U.S. President Donald Trump's second term, the U.S. and Europe have been engaged in intensive negotiations.
Silina emphasized that the U.S. security strategy is not the entirety of U.S. foreign policy, but merely one of the documents. Moreover, many things outlined for Europe in it are already being implemented by the three Baltic countries, she said. In particular, all Baltic states will spend at least 5% of their gross domestic product on defense.
In migration issues, Latvia is one of the leaders, Silina noted.
The Prime Minister added that Latvian officials frequently travel to Washington to demonstrate to the U.S. that the country is very concerned about security. "The U.S. notices this as well," Silina said. According to her, the need to protect the eastern flank is regularly emphasized at various meetings.
At the same time, Silina added that it is very important for Europe that peace in Ukraine exists not only on paper but also in reality.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene noted that it is clear that a peaceful resolution is a complex process consisting of many stages. "In negotiations with our strategic partners, it has never been said that relations with Russia have become warmer," she said, adding that the content of such negotiations is related to security, especially the security of our region.
Ruginiene also reported that the current number of American troops in Lithuania will remain for two more terms. "Security and cooperation with our key strategic partners is ensured for the long term," said the Lithuanian Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Mihal emphasized that security issues in our region are related not to Trump but to Russia and the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. Relations with the U.S. are good, Mihal said.
As previously reported, the new U.S. national security strategy sharply criticizes European policies on migration and freedom of speech, and questions whether European countries will be reliable partners for the U.S. in the long term.
