On Tuesday, at a meeting of the audit commission, the Saeima administration was heard regarding the budget of the Latvian parliament for the next year.
As reported by the Executive Director of the Saeima Administration Indra Karkliņa, the Saeima's expenses in the draft budget for next year are planned at 40.46 million euros, which is 2.1 million euros more than in 2025.
Tens of millions of euros will go to salaries. As Karkliņa noted, compensation accounts for more than 77% of the total Saeima budget.
In the draft budget for next year, 31 million euros are allocated for salaries, which is 892,843 euros more than in the previous year.
Another section of expenses is related to strengthening diplomacy with the USA, Karkliņa explained. Clearly, this is not an area where savings can be made.
Another 182,798 euros are planned to be allocated for contributions to international organizations.
In the Saeima's budget for next year, expenses for goods and services will increase by 1.06 million euros. Attendees inquired about the reasons for this. Karkliņa reported that the expenses are related to the change of the Saeima's deputy corps, which will occur next year. Therefore, it would be good to "refresh" the building on Torņa Street. Additionally, expenses for hosting the NATO Parliamentary Assembly have been taken into account.
