Children gifted nearly 80,000 euros to a pensioner overseeing Latvian media

Member of the National Council of Electronic Media (NCEM) Andis Plakans received 68,751 euros as a reward in the council last year (an average of 5,500 euros per month), according to the declaration he submitted.

In 2025, Plakans also received a gift of 22,738 euros from his daughter Baiba Plakane, 25,475 euros from his son Karlis Plakans, and 31,582 euros from his daughter Ruta Plakane. Thus, the children gifted their father a total of 79,795 euros.

Additionally, the member of the National Council of Electronic Media (NCEM) received a pension of 12,258 euros and various benefits from the State Social Insurance Agency totaling 3,017 euros. He also received 242 euros in interest payments from SEB banka and 370 euros in dividends from Swedbank.

Among other income, Plakans reported 63 euros received from the company Metalekspo, 924 euros from the Village Support Service, and 186 euros from the sale of property.

In Riga, he owns an apartment and two other properties, with one property co-owned with other owners. Plakans also owns land, buildings, and another property in the Druva municipality, real estate in the Ropaži municipality, and a plot of land in the Stopiņi municipality.

In his declaration, he indicated financial assets in the money market worth a total of 19,372 euros and 6,960 US dollars (6,089 euros).

At the end of last year, Plakans owned a 2014 Nissan E NV200, a 2014 Yamaha MT 09 motorcycle, a 2013 Rydwan Euro C750 trailer, and a 1980 VW Golf.

He keeps 900 US dollars (786 euros) and 5,500 euros in cash. He has 44,251 euros and 10,242 US dollars (8,947 euros) in bank accounts.

Plakans also declared a loan issued in the amount of 53,850 euros. He has savings in private pension funds and a life insurance policy with accumulated funds. Andis Plakans became a member of the National Council of Electronic Media in January 2022.
