After a comfortable start to summer, Latvia is facing extreme heat. Already this weekend, temperatures will rise to +35 degrees, and tropical nights will not give residents of Riga and Zemgale a break even after sunset.
While the south and west of Europe are suffering from the heat, Latvia is enjoying relatively comfortable summer warmth. However, meteorologists' forecasts indicate that this week, the hot breath of Africa will reach us, writes Otkrito.lv.
According to the forecasts of the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, on June 25 and 26, hot air from the south will begin to flow into the western and central regions of the country.
The real heat will start on Saturday, June 27. For example, at noon in Jelgava and Dobele, +31 degrees is expected, while in Riga, Bauska, and Ogre, +30 degrees.
The highest temperature on Saturday is forecasted for the central part of Latvia and the east of Kurzeme. Even at night, there will be almost no coolness — in Zemgale and Riga, the temperature may remain around +20 degrees.
On Sunday, June 28, extreme heat will cover almost the entire country, except for the Baltic Sea coast in Kurzeme. In Jelgava, temperatures are expected to reach up to +35 degrees, in Bauska and Dobele — +34, and in Riga, Tukums, and Ogre — +33 degrees. Throughout the country, daytime temperatures will exceed +30 degrees. The night in Riga and Zemgale will be even warmer than the previous one.
Similar heat will persist on Monday, June 29. At night in Jelgava, Dobele, and Bauska, the temperature around 3:00 AM will be +23 degrees, while in Riga and its surroundings — +22 degrees.
The first noticeable relief will come only with heavy rains in the evening of July 1.
