Social media is ablaze with passions regarding the Dailes Theatre's innovation - covering the cameras on audience members' phones.

As previously reported, the Dailes Theatre has decided to use an interesting method to combat copyright violators - stickers are given to audience members at the entrance to cover smartphone cameras for the duration of the performance. Riga City Council member, renowned political technologist and advertising specialist Eriks Stendzenieks unleashed a fierce comment on the social network X, accusing the theatre of grossly invading personal space.

"What damage does a blurry fragment of video on social media inflict on a theatrical performance? Is there even one person in the world (not to mention Latvia) who says, 'Oh, I won’t buy a ticket because I’ve already watched 30 seconds of a blurry, shaky video from the last row'? The theatre should be grateful that viewers provide a video glimpse of the performance. Soon, it will be impossible to write reviews. Idiots," wrote E. Stendzenieks. Many commentators disagreed with this opinion, lamenting that they, as audience members, are disturbed by other viewers who film the stage during the performance, turn on their smartphone lights, or even ignore requests to silence their phones during the show.

In response, the politician reasonably noted that such behavior from viewers is unlikely to be deterred by stickers on their phones. This could lead to absurdity, requiring those who cough during the performance to undergo tests.
