Ukraine should become part of NATO's defense, stated Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs in the World Talks program on TVP World during the Ukraine Recovery Conference taking place in the Polish port city of Gdańsk.
"They must become part of NATO," said Kulbergs, calling the Ukrainian army one of the strongest in the world and the most hardened in the conditions of modern warfare.
According to him, the alliance needs to adapt more quickly to the lessons of the war in Ukraine, especially regarding the use of drones, electronic warfare tools, and a layered air defense system.
Latvia Suffers Due to Russia
Kulbergs also warned that pressure from Russia negatively affects the economies of countries located on the front line of confrontation, hindering investments and tourism development.
In his opinion, the eastern flank states need special support from the European Union, as their significant spending on security and defense contributes to the protection of the entire continent.
Thus, he supported the calls in Brussels for targeted assistance to countries bordering Russia.
"The World Through Strength"
In an interview with TVP World, Kulbergs emphasized that the tension in relations between Poland and Ukraine should not overshadow their common security interests. According to him, allies should approach the difficulties that Kyiv faces in wartime with understanding and respect.
Kulbergs stated that political disagreements among allies should not distract from the main threat posed by Moscow.
"The world through strength. This is the only language that Russia understands," he said.
"Only aggressive Moscow gains from us showing any kind of weakness," said Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs. "There is no need and no time for this."
