Riga is expanding its night service: starting this weekend, seven new night bus routes will begin operating in the city. This should simplify the journey home after events, work, or late flights from the city center.
As reported by the municipal enterprise "Rīgas satiksme", night buses will operate on the nights from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday until September 27.
The new network will cover several major areas of Riga:
- N1 — Center — Teika — Jugla — Mežciems — Center
- N2 — Center — Sarkandaugava — Vecmilgrāvis
- N3 — Center — Ilguciems — Daugavgrīva
- N4 — Center — Imanta — Zolitūde — Agenskalns — Center
- N6 — Center — Purvciems — Plavnieki — Dārziņi — Center
- N7 — Center — Kengarags — Latgales Street — Center
- N10 — Center — Agenskalns — Ziepniekkalns — Center
They will complement the already existing route N22, which connects the city center with Riga Airport every night.
Some routes were retained after last year's experiment, one was redesigned, and the others were organized anew. Authorities expect that night transport will be in demand during the summer season when more concerts, festivals, and events take place in the city.
There is also a feature of night services: buses will stop at stops only on passenger request. At the same time, the fare and benefits will remain the same as in regular daytime transport.
At the same time, "Rīgas satiksme" is changing the schedule of some bus and trolleybus routes.
On weekdays, changes will affect bus routes No. 12, 13, 29, 36, and 54, while on weekends — No. 7, 8, 23, 25, 26, 29, 44, 50, 54, and 55.
Adjustments are also being made for trolleybuses No. 11, 18, 23, and 35.
The company explains that the changes are necessary for more accurate adherence to the schedule, improving transfers between routes, and more even distribution of drivers' working time.
According to bb.lv, the return of night buses is one of the most noticeable summer transport initiatives in Riga in recent years.
