Riga's municipal enterprises will not impose penalties and will limit debt collection until June 30

Considering the increase in utility payments due to low temperatures last winter, Riga municipal enterprises will not impose penalties and will limit debt collection until June 30, the Riga City Council's external communication department reported.

Penalties will not be applied by SIA "Rīgas namu pārvaldnieks", SIA "Rīgas ūdens", JSC "Rīgas siltums" and SIA "Rīgas nami".

In January, Riga's Executive Director Janis Lange urged municipal enterprises to suspend the imposition of penalties and interest for late payments.

Thus, residents of the capital will not incur penalties and interest for overdue payments for heating, water, and sewage bills, that is, for utility services provided until the end of May, as well as for house maintenance.

During this period, the growth of previously accumulated penalties and interest for late payments is also suspended.

New debts arising from bills issued from January 1 to June 30 of this year will not be sent for collection or to court during this period.

The municipality also reminds that residents who are experiencing difficulties in paying their bills will have the opportunity to negotiate with service providers for an individual repayment schedule for up to six months even after June 30.

In turn, residents with low incomes may receive housing assistance.
