In spring, females drive away last year's calves with the arrival of new offspring. Young moose begin an independent life and during this time may move chaotically within their range.
Latvian experts note that animals follow traditional migration paths that help them search for breeding grounds, food resources, and shelter from adverse conditions.
This is why moose may come out onto roads and enter populated areas.
Drivers are especially urged to be cautious in the evening and at night, as well as in poorly lit sections of roads near forests. A moose may suddenly run onto the roadway, and predicting its further movement is nearly impossible: the animal may turn back immediately or continue running along its chosen trajectory.
