The State Fire and Rescue Service celebrates its birthday on May 17 — the 161st anniversary of firefighting in Latvia.
“As every year on this day, May 17, as well as on May 18 and 19, we organize an open house at fire stations across Latvia. We are glad that on our holiday we can raise safety issues and introduce the profession of firefighter-rescuer,” said the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS).
In particular, on May 19 from 10 AM to 5 PM, admission to the Latvian Museum of Firefighting at 5 Hanzas Street in Riga will be free!
Especially on the holiday of Latvian firefighters, schoolchildren are expected, and they will have the opportunity to:
get acquainted with the daily life of firefighter-rescuers;
inspect the equipment and gear of the SFRS;
practically check how much the firefighter-rescuer gear weighs;
test whether they can put on protective clothing in 45 seconds;
participate in interactive discussions about safe behavior in various situations (fire safety, actions in emergencies).
To plan the flow of visitors and to ensure that firefighter-rescuers can dedicate time and attention to each guest, groups from educational institutions need to apply in advance to the unit they wish to visit.
