A New Record Set in Kolka

In Kolka, the air warmed up to +19.4 degrees in the first half of Sunday, which is a new heat record for May 3 at this observation station, according to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

The highest air temperature recorded in Kolka on May 3 was +18.2 degrees in 1990.

This is the first broken temperature record in Latvia since March. In February, six heat records and 19 cold records were broken, while in March, 123 heat records were set.

At other observation stations, the air temperature at 11 a.m. ranged from +11.2 degrees in Liepaja port to +21.8 degrees in Bauska and +22 degrees in Daugavpils.

Meteorologists forecast that in the afternoon, the air temperature will rise to +20...+25 degrees across most of the country. With a west and southwest wind, cooler air will remain on the western coast of Kurzeme and in some places on the Vidzeme coast.

As reported, at other observation stations, the heat record for the first days of May ranges from +24 to +29 degrees. The highest air temperature recorded in the country during the first days of the month was +29.4 degrees on May 2, 1977, in Mersrags.
