The dissatisfaction of Grizinkalns residents has been joined by emergency services.
The intention of the Riga City Council to block traffic through Varna Street has caused dissatisfaction among some residents of Grizinkalns. They warn that this decision will lead to congestion and chaos on the surrounding streets, which are filled with parked cars, making it extremely difficult to pass. Concerns about the planned changes in traffic organization were also expressed in an interview with TV-3 news service by representatives of emergency services - the Emergency Medical Service and the Fire and Rescue Service.
"In Grizinkalns, the new traffic order on Varna Street has caused not only dissatisfaction among residents but also concerns for safety. Concrete blocks, or the so-called 'modular filter', have now been installed at the intersection of Varna Street and Laboratory Street, intended to limit transit traffic. Emergency services and local residents hope for a reconsideration of the current decision," TV-3 reports, quoting medical and rescue personnel who state that when people are in trouble, often it is not even minutes but seconds that matter. Emergency vehicles must arrive at the scene as quickly as possible.
