Considering the rise in fuel prices and inflation, the Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital (RAKUS) may face an increase in medication costs, stated the Chairman of the Hospital's Board Vadim Belюн during the "900 Seconds" program on TV3.
He explained that when planning the budget for one of the largest expense items - medications and medical devices - a price increase of up to 8% is currently projected. At the same time, there are signs that the actual increase in costs may be higher, which could potentially impact the hospital's budget. The National Health Service and the Ministry of Health have been informed of these risks.
Speaking about the funding allocated for the reconstruction of the Latvian Oncology Center, which currently exceeds 63 million euros, Belюн noted that an additional need for approximately 12 million euros has been identified to ensure facilities, equipment, and other resources.
At the same time, as emphasized by the Chairman of the Board of the Eastern Hospital, the reconstruction project is progressing according to the planned schedule, and this process does not affect the quality of treatment and care for patients.
LETA agency has already reported that the current board member Belюн has been elected as the new Chairman of the Board of the Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital. He has held the position of a board member since November 2024.
Belюн was appointed as the Chairman of the Board of the Eastern Hospital following an open competition in which 14 candidates participated.
