"In previous years, the Riga City Council provided free sand to sprinkle on the streets in front of one’s house so that people would not slip and fall in case of ice. Will sand also be provided this year?"
Don’t Worry!
According to information posted on the capital's municipal website, Riga residents, who are responsible for a certain section of municipal territory, can also receive anti-slip material (sand) for sidewalk maintenance free of charge this year, just like in previous years. The support is intended for paved areas (asphalt, cobblestones, etc.)
The application for municipal support can be submitted by the property owner, legal possessor, or manager who ensures order in the area adjacent to their property. Up to 50 kg (2 bags of 25 kg each) of anti-slip material can be allocated for one property.
The rules for maintaining adjacent territories are defined by the Riga City Council Regulations Noteikumi par teritorijas kopšanu un būvju uzturēšanu ("Riga City Council Regulations on Territory Maintenance and Building Maintenance").
