Last year, 219 people died from alcohol-related liver diseases in Latvia, according to information provided by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
144 of them were men, 75 were women.
At the same time, 36 of the deceased from liver diseases caused by alcohol were in the age group of 50 to 59 years (27 men, nine women).
The threshold of 200 deaths from liver diseases caused by alcohol consumption has been exceeded three times since 2010. In 2021, 264 people died from these diseases, in 2022, 227, and last year, 219 residents.
