The dismantled monument to Pushkin in Riga was found near the Riga crematorium

Riga residents are once again discussing the fate of the monument to Alexander Pushkin: the dismantled bronze figure of the Russian poet, removed in 2023, has been found outdoors at the warehouse of the Riga Monument Agency, reports Otkrito.lv.

A passerby noticed the monument on Varonyu Street, 13, — on the territory of the Monument Agency's warehouse, where dismantled objects are temporarily stored, located near the Riga crematorium.

The monument, created by sculptor Alexander Taratynov and installed in 2009, was dismantled by the decision of the Riga City Council in the context of a review of public symbols associated with Russia. At that time, the authorities stated that the monument would be preserved until a further decision about its fate was made.

"A chance encounter," wrote the Riga resident who photographed the monument. According to her, the statue is visible from the window of the Riga–Skulte train, and she specifically got off at the Sarkandaugava station to take a picture. "It's sad that it hasn't even been brought indoors," people are commenting.

In the comments to the photo, users are discussing the fate of the monument: some suggest "buying it and placing it in a garden," while others remind that the object is stored in the warehouse and "will return to its place when the time comes."
