After director Adolf Shapiro's participation in an event in Moscow, the jury of the theater award 'Night of Actors' (Spēlmaņu nakts) excluded both the director and his performance 'Don Quixote', staged at the New Riga Theatre, from the list of nominees.

As reported by LETA, the coordinator of the 'Night of Actors' jury, Richard Vorobyev, the jury meeting to determine the nominees of the past theater season took place on June 16, and the list of candidates was published on June 18.

At that time, the jury did not have information that a meeting with director Adolf Shapiro was scheduled for June 18 at the Anton Chekhov Moscow Art Theater, which ultimately took place.

The 'Night of Actors' jury emphasized that it considers it impossible to publicly honor artists who participate in official events in Russia.

In this regard, the jury decided to exclude Adolf Shapiro from the list of nominees in the 'Director of the Year' category, and the performance 'Don Quixote' from the 'Best Large-Scale Performance' category.

However, let us return from politics to art. A review of the wonderful performance 'Don Quixote' can be read HERE
