On the TV24 channel, the director of the Riga State 3rd Gymnasium, Andris Priekulis, reported: every third teacher with less than 5 years of experience is considering the possibility of leaving their job.
If we look at the age distribution and compare it with other countries, it is clear that teachers in Latvian schools are older than in other European countries.
Priekulis points out another factor: there are fewer men than women in Latvia compared to the average figures in Europe. Political figures should consider, he believes, a policy regarding careers and salaries, as currently a young teacher starting work in a school receives the same salary as a teacher who has been working for many years.
"If we all do the same job, then we do not sort by subject, age, or gender - we are equal, and this is a challenge in politics," states the school director.
