From January 13, 2026, the Riga Museum of Art Nouveau will host an exhibition by Alexandra Chudnovskaya dedicated to the Venetian carnival. It features the author's works – graphic pieces, photographs – and items from private collections. The exhibition tells the story of Venice as a theater of light and shadows, where reality and fantasy merge in an eternal dance of reflections.

Graphic works and photographs by Alexandra Chudnovskaya featuring costumes from the Venetian carnival create a dialogue between classical graphic images of commedia dell’arte and the author's individual visual interpretation. The works are created in accordance with the academic graphic tradition, in the style of 19th-century drawings, with pronounced architectural detailing and a characteristic play of lines and shadows typical of that time.

The works depict a city where time and history are reflected like light on the surface of water. These reflections can be observed not only in the waters of Venice but also in the architecture that holds the stories of centuries, as well as in the people and their faces hidden behind masks, and in the light that gently illuminates the historic city.

The author's works are complemented by items from private collections: mysterious and vibrant masks, original carnival costumes with special accessories, fans, jewelry, glass items from Italy, as well as original materials and illustrations from magazines of the 1920s-1930s.

The works of artist, collector, and restorer Alexandra Chudnovskaya have been exhibited multiple times at the Museum of Art Nouveau — photographs, graphics, painted glass. The collections always impress with their exquisite vision, creating a festive atmosphere. This exhibition by Alexandra Chudnovskaya – a touch of Venice – will allow visitors to feel the mysterious and enchanting atmosphere of Venice, where the traditions of the carnival have roots in the distant past and are shrouded in countless legends.

The exhibition will be open until March 8, 2026.
