Today at 18:00, a concert titled "Let the New Piano Sound!" will take place in the Great Hall of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA), announced the academy's representative Paula Prauliņa.
After a 20-year hiatus, JVLMA has acquired a new world-class concert piano from Steinway & Sons. During a visit to the Steinway & Sons factory in Hamburg, representatives of the academy were able to choose one from ten different pianos.
The new instrument was delivered from Germany in a special truck that maintained the necessary temperature. After its arrival at the academy, the piano needed an additional two weeks to "settle" so that the wood's humidity level could stabilize and the instrument could be tuned.
Funding for the piano purchase was provided by the Ministry of Culture to update JVLMA's material and technical base.
A specially selected program for the piano will be performed by Andrey Osokin, Herta Hansena, Alexander Kaleis, Juris Zhvikov, and Sanita Glazenburga. The student quintet JVLMA "Soleil" will also participate in the concert.
