Eggshell fertilizer is becoming increasingly popular among gardeners, but not everyone knows how to properly use this natural fertilizer.
Eggshells are not suitable for all plants, so it is impractical to use them everywhere.
Crops that respond positively to feeding with eggshells include:
- cabbage;
- tomatoes;
- peppers;
- eggplants;
- beets;
- onions;
- carrots;
- turnips;
- currants.
Before use, the shells need to be crushed using a coffee grinder or another convenient method. Then, they are poured into a container, filled with warm water, and covered with a lid.
The mixture is placed in a dark place for 2 weeks. The readiness of the fertilizer can be determined by its cloudy color and unpleasant smell. The solution is diluted with water in a ratio of 1:3 and used to water the plants.
There is also a more complex but effective recipe. For it, take a 100-liter container, fill it 1/3 full with chopped seedless greens, add 1 kg of sodium humate and 600 g of powdered eggshells. Then, fill it with water and let it steep for 2 weeks, stirring regularly.
The finished solution is diluted with water in a ratio of 1:10 and used during watering as a fertilizer.
