Donald Trump left a special letter for Vice President JD Vance in case of an emergency. This was revealed by Deputy Assistant to the President of the United States Sebastian Gorka in the Pod Force One podcast, as reported by the New York Post.

Gorka noted that there are "rules of succession" in case Trump becomes a victim of an assassination attempt. According to the White House representative, he has no concerns that a "foreign adversary" would take such a step.

"In the Resolute desk drawer lies a letter addressed to the vice president in case something happens to him (Trump). ... We have protocols, believe me," Gorka said.

Trump has faced assassination attempts several times in recent years. For instance, in July 2024, at a rally during the election campaign, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks fired eight shots, injuring Trump in the ear. The shooter was killed by a Secret Service agent.

In the fall of the same year, the FBI thwarted an assassination attempt on Trump at his golf club in Florida, and he was unharmed. Law enforcement arrested 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Rauta, who was sentenced to life in prison in February 2026.

On April 25, during a dinner of the White House Correspondents' Association, where Trump was present, gunfire erupted. The event took place at the Washington Hilton hotel, where 45 years ago an assassination attempt was made on President Ronald Reagan. The White House called the incident an assassination attempt on the head of state.

Who Could Succeed Trump?

In May, Trump already named his potential political successors. Among them are Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

According to the American leader, these politicians are capable of forming a "dream team" for the 2028 presidential election.

What Is Known About the Letter?

Details of the document's content are not disclosed. However, Gorka's statement confirms that the U.S. administration has scenarios for transferring power in case of emergencies.

In the editorial's opinion, the public mention of such a letter reflects the growing tension surrounding American politics and the security issues of the nation's top officials. Against the backdrop of several incidents in recent years, the topic of succession of power in the U.S. is becoming increasingly sensitive and discussed.
