Seven Methods to Improve Air Quality in Your Home

The air quality in a home directly affects well-being, sleep, and immunity. As endocrinologist and rehabilitation specialist Alexey Kalinchev explained, there are often more pollutants in enclosed spaces than outdoors, but there are proven ways to improve air quality.

“Even in winter, it’s worth opening windows for 5-10 minutes several times a day. Cross-ventilation works best: it quickly replaces stale air with fresh air without allowing the walls to cool down. Ideally, ventilate in the morning after waking up and before going to bed,” emphasized the expert.

The doctor explained that the optimal humidity level in a room is 40-60%. Wet cleaning with safe products, houseplants, humidifiers, and HEPA filter air purifiers help maintain a comfortable microclimate, especially in homes with allergy sufferers, pets, or windows facing busy streets.

It is also advisable to minimize dust collectors – carpets with long pile, heavy curtains, soft toys – and avoid sources of harmful vapors such as tobacco smoke, incense sticks, and paraffin candles. Some plants, such as chlorophytum and sansevieria, naturally purify the air.
