Want to get early potatoes? Find out how to do it in your summer cottage.
Sharing his experience is gardener and agronomist Alexander KHOROBROVETS:
- In order to grow early potatoes in a pre-prepared plot, it is necessary to dig trenches about one spade deep. The soil extracted from the trenches should be carefully piled along one side of each of them. If the soil is not fertile enough, it should be watered several times with manure slurry.
At the beginning of April, the trenches are filled with leaves, as well as rotted and fresh horse manure, evenly layering and mixing all components. A layer of soil 7-10 cm thick is placed on top of the manure.
At the right time, sprouted potato tubers are planted in the prepared trenches. The distance between tubers in the rows should be 45 cm, and between the rows themselves — 60 cm. Tubers must be planted with the sprout facing up. If the tubers are pre-cut, they should be laid on the ground with the cut side down during planting.
