Are the 'rats' already fleeing the ship of the main ruling party in recent years ahead of the division of places at the trough? The parliamentary faction of 'New Unity' is united, and public statements about its possible split are unfounded, said the head of the faction Edmunds Jurevics to the LETA agency.
The politician noted that overall there are collegial relations between the heads of factions; however, individual statements from political partners should be regarded as unfounded and aimed at sowing doubts about the unity of the party.
In his opinion, such statements are not based on reality and resemble attempts to politically influence the negotiation process for forming a new government. The head of the faction emphasized that 'New Unity' has been united until now and will remain so in the future.
Commenting on the assumptions of politicians from the 'United List' (OS) about a possible split in 'New Unity' or the participation of individual deputies in other political decisions, Jurevics said that such interpretations do not correspond to the real situation and are regularly proven to be erroneous.
At the same time, it is still too early to comment on the specific role of 'New Unity' in the process of forming a new government, as time is needed to assess the situation, and consultations with the president must also be awaited.
Jurevics added that the tension in the political environment is currently heightened, which may influence public rhetoric; however, this does not diminish the necessity to maintain a correct and fact-based discussion.
