How to Avoid Drowsiness at Work: Effective Tips

Imagine you are in the midst of a workday, staring at your computer screen and not understanding what is happening. Your eyelids are getting heavier, and your cup of coffee is slowly cooling down. We have a solution!

Quality sleep is crucial for human health, so it should not be ignored.
Do not self-medicate! In our materials, we gather relevant scientific research and opinions from recognized specialists in the field of medicine. However, remember: only a doctor can diagnose and prescribe treatment.

Drink Water

It is known that the human body is composed of 80% water. It is necessary for lubricating joints, delivering nutrients to organs, and supporting the immune system. It is recommended to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, and for some people, this norm may be higher — depending on height and weight. Keep in mind that coffee and tea do not count towards this norm — they are separate beverages that do not replenish the body's water supply.

If you often forget to drink water, set an alarm for every 30-60 minutes or download an app that will remind you to drink a glass of water.

Lower the Temperature

The warmer it is in the room, the more relaxed you become. If possible, lower the air conditioning temperature or open a window. This will force your body to expend energy to warm itself, which will help you stay awake.

Wash Your Face with Cold Water

Washing your face with cold water is a real shock to the skin, which helps improve blood circulation and instantly increases alertness.

If you work from home, take a quick cold shower to fully wake up.

Choose Healthy Snacks

Eating healthy food helps provide the body with the necessary energy to stay alert. Examples of healthy snacks include:

bananas,
almonds,
dried fruits,
granola bars,
nuts,
crackers and hummus.

Avoid foods high in carbohydrates, as they can cause drowsiness and fatigue.

Take a Break

Sometimes you just need a short break to reset your brain. Try the Pomodoro technique — it involves working for 25 minutes followed by a five-minute break between tasks.

The goal is to make a to-do list and set a timer. Having a limited time creates a psychological effect that helps increase productivity. This improves efficiency and allows you to better organize your day.

Communicate

Sometimes it is important to chat with friends or colleagues to lift your spirits. This is especially relevant for those who work remotely and are extroverts. Interacting with others helps recharge your energy, and working together becomes easier!
