The practice of visiting museums can help Russians cope with psychological difficulties, said psychologist Daria Yausheva.
According to her, activities such as art, sports, gardening, volunteering, and other engagements help maintain mental balance.
"Beauty, history, and contact with culture help a person transcend their everyday anxiety and feel connected to something significant. Austrian psychotherapist Viktor Frankl referred to this as one of the ways to find meaning in life. Art wonderfully helps to shift attention from constant worries to new images and impressions. Observing paintings, sculptures, and installations can resemble mindfulness practices, where attention is focused on the 'here and now,'" noted Yausheva.
She added that visits to museums can lower cortisol levels, promote relaxation, and help counteract stress related to isolation and loneliness. However, this should be viewed as part of a comprehensive approach. For effective stress management, it is also important to engage in physical activity, ensure social support, eat properly, and normalize sleep patterns. Additionally, working with a psychotherapist can be beneficial.
