Storing eggs on the refrigerator door is not recommended, as the temperature in that spot is unstable, especially with frequent opening, explained dietitian E. Solomatina.
Due to temperature fluctuations, the product spoils faster. Additionally, if the door is opened abruptly, microcracks may appear on the shell, through which microorganisms can easily penetrate, added the specialist.
According to the expert, eggs with thin white shells are the most vulnerable to microbes.
Food technologist N. Lvovich emphasized that the optimal temperature for storing eggs is between 0 and 25 °C. Therefore, she stated that it is better to keep them in a pantry or in a cool place by the window. Eggs should also be stored separately from other products to avoid cross-contamination, the expert concluded.
