Aspirin, which some housewives add to homemade preserves for winter, can harm health. This was reported by therapist Nadezhda Chernyshova.
According to her, this medication is used for medical purposes, not for extending the shelf life of preserves. It should only be taken as prescribed by a specialist.
"If homemade cucumbers and tomatoes with aspirin are consumed regularly throughout the winter, the gastrointestinal tract will suffer first and foremost. This could lead to the development of gastritis, stomach bleeding, and ulcers," the doctor warned.
In addition, preserves with aspirin can affect the kidneys, which poses risks for developing diseases of this organ. Moreover, children under the age of 10 are contraindicated from taking the medication, as they may develop Reye's syndrome. Taking aspirin during illness can almost instantly cause liver damage.
