How to Peel Garlic Without Getting Your Hands Dirty: 3 Simple Methods to Try

Garlic adds zest to dishes, enhances their flavor and aroma, and also boosts the immune system.

But it has one drawback — peeling garlic is not easy, especially if you need to prepare several heads at once. The cloves are difficult to free from their skins, your hands become sticky, and the smell lingers for hours.

Fortunately, experts from Taste of Home have suggested several hacks that can help make the process easier.

The "Two Bowl" Method

The most spectacular method. You need to separate the head of garlic into cloves, place them in a metal bowl, and cover it with another bowl upside down. After that, shake the structure vigorously for about 10 seconds. As a result, the skins will separate on their own.

Microwave Heating

Place the head of garlic in a bowl of water and put it in the microwave for 30 seconds. After heating, the skin becomes soft and is easily removed. However, the cloves may also soften slightly, although this hardly affects the taste.

You can also use just the microwave without water. Simply trim the tops of the cloves and heat them for 20–30 seconds. After cooling, the skin will come off easily.

Knife

This method is suitable if you need to peel just 1–2 cloves. Simply place the garlic on a cutting board and press it with the flat side of a knife. After a light press, the skin cracks and can be removed in a couple of seconds.
