Two trucks collided near Bauska: one from Poland, the other from Turkey. The truck was carrying animals

A serious accident involving two trucks occurred on Tuesday in Coda, near Bauska, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3). Both drivers were taken to the hospital. One of the trucks was carrying an important cargo — live agricultural animals.

A damaged truck remains on the side of the Bauska highway. It has now been moved to avoid obstructing traffic; however, the road was temporarily closed at night as two heavy vehicles were involved in the accident.

The collision occurred near the bus stop "Berzi." A vehicle carrying animals veered deeper into the ditch, leaving deep tire tracks in the snow. This truck was pulled out shortly after the accident, as the animals needed to be delivered to their destination as soon as possible.

"A man born in 1984, driving the truck, crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with another truck driven by a man born in 1968. As a result of the traffic accident, both drivers sustained physical injuries and were taken to a medical facility," said Ruta Strautniece, a representative of the Zemgale Regional Department of the State Police.

Both injured individuals were taken to the hospital in stable condition. The animals were unharmed.

The truck carrying the animals was from Poland, while the other was from Turkey. It sustained serious damage from the impact: the windshield was shattered, and various parts of the front of the vehicle were broken.

Debris and parts from both vehicles were scattered across the snow, and various fluids leaked from the trucks. An administrative process has been initiated by the State Police regarding the incident.
