France reported the death of a serviceman on the territory of Lebanon as a result of an accident. This was announced by the French Ministry of Defense.
The incident occurred today, July 10, involving a 21-year-old soldier named Florian Gilet. He had been in Lebanon since June 1 as part of a group sent there under a military partnership to support the country's armed forces.
The French Ministry of Defense reported that the soldier sustained a fatal injury due to an accidental shot during training preparation. He could not be saved.
A week earlier, a Serbian soldier, who was in Lebanon as part of a UN peacekeeping mission, was killed in shelling; two other peacekeepers were injured.
On May 7, the "Shama" base in Lebanon, where the Italian contingent of UN peacekeepers is stationed, was hit by a missile strike.
In April, France confirmed the death of two of its soldiers from the UN peacekeeping group who were injured in Lebanon during demining operations as a result of shelling.
Among other incidents, a Polish peacekeeper was injured by planted explosives in Lebanon.
