Russian actress Aglaia Tarasova was sentenced to three years of probation - such a decision was made by the Domodedovo City Court of the Moscow Region.
The 31-year-old Tarasova was also fined 200,000 rubles. The actress was found guilty of drug smuggling.
The penalty for the article provides for imprisonment of three to seven years. At the same time, the prosecution requested three and a half years of probation for Tarasova.
The actress herself, speaking in court to explain what happened, stated that she did not know about the cannabis oil in the vape, as it was a gift from an Israeli entrepreneur friend involved in pharmacology.
"I did not know the exact composition. I assumed there might be minor cannabis values. In Israel, all of this is legal. I broke the law and deeply regret it," Tarasova said during her interrogation in the court of the Moscow region city of Domodedovo.
For his part, the actress's lawyer reported that his client donated 200,000 rubles to a drug prevention fund. This organization is engaged in the treatment of drug addicts and conducts preventive talks.
On August 28, Tarasova was detained at Domodedovo Airport while attempting to transport a vape with cannabis oil (marijuana). A criminal case was initiated against the actress under Part 1 of Article 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (drug smuggling). She could face a sentence of up to seven years in prison with a fine of up to one million rubles.
A measure of restraint in the form of a ban on certain actions has been chosen for the actress. She fully admitted her guilt and expressed remorse for her actions, calling her deed "a big mistake."
At the last court hearing, which took place in September, Aglaia Tarasova reported that she has an 84-year-old grandmother and an 85-year-old grandfather dependent on her. As the actress claimed, she allegedly brought the drug across the border specifically for them.
