The State Revenue Service (SRS) of Latvia, during the investigation of the criminal proceedings against the Russian citizen, confiscated 1.3 million euros in favor of the state, the agency reported.

The preliminary investigation against this individual is ongoing.

Criminal proceedings against the Russian citizen were initiated after the man arrived in Latvia on a flight from Russia, carrying more than 142,000 euros in cash in his hand luggage. According to the State Revenue Service (SRS), he provided false information about their legality.

Later, the Riga District Court ruled to recognize the aforementioned 142,000 euros as criminally obtained and to allocate them to the state budget of Latvia.

The investigation did not stop there – investigators discovered that this individual was linked to commercial activities in the field of international freight transportation at a port in Russia. For some reason, the income obtained from the transportation was stored by the Russian citizen in current accounts at various Latvian banks.

He accumulated a total of 1.2 million euros. Now he may forget about them. On October 6, 2025, the Riga District Court ruled to confiscate 1.2 million euros in favor of the Latvian state. The decision is not subject to appeal.

The troubles for the Russian citizen did not end with the confiscation of the million. The article of the Criminal Law of the Republic of Latvia under which he is charged provides for a penalty of imprisonment for up to twelve years with confiscation of property.
