The ceasefire declared the day before between Israel and the group Hezbollah has not yet led to a cessation of hostilities. Already the day after the agreement came into effect, the sides accused each other of violating the agreements, and explosions were heard again in southern Lebanon.

Despite the ceasefire declared on Friday, clashes continued on Saturday in southern Lebanon between Israeli forces and the Iran-backed group Hezbollah.

According to the Lebanese Civil Defense, 16 people were killed and another 12 were injured as a result of Israeli airstrikes in the Nabatiyeh area.

The Israeli side claims that the new strikes were prompted by rocket fire from Hezbollah. According to an Israeli army spokesperson, more than 50 rockets were fired at Israeli units in southern Lebanon overnight.

Following this, Israeli forces began striking Hezbollah positions.

What is important to know: the ceasefire agreement was reached with the mediation of the United States, Iran, and Qatar, and according to sources in the U.S. administration, it came into effect on Friday at 4:00 PM local time. However, within the first day of its implementation, both sides have effectively continued to accuse each other of violations.

Israel's ambassador to the U.S., Mike Herzog, stated that Israel remains committed to the ceasefire but expects compliance with the agreements from Hezbollah.

For its part, Hezbollah publicly declared its readiness to adhere to the ceasefire on the condition of similar actions from Israel, but did not confirm that it considers the ceasefire regime fully in effect.

The current agreement is part of broader negotiations between the U.S. and Iran aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East.

However, the document does not provide a clear mechanism for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon, which remains one of the most contentious issues.

Hezbollah is considered Iran's main ally in the region and plays a key role in the confrontation between Tehran and Israel. This is why the developments in Lebanon are closely monitored far beyond the country's borders.

As both sides continue to exchange strikes and accusations, the prospects for a sustainable ceasefire remain uncertain. The events of the coming days will show whether the mediators can bring the conflicting parties back to fulfilling the agreements reached.
