The President of Ukraine congratulated the American leader on his 80th birthday. "We discussed what can help bring peace closer now," Zelensky stated, thanking the U.S. for its support. Putin also called Trump.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he will meet with American leader Donald Trump in Évian-les-Bains, France, where the G7 summit is currently taking place. Zelensky posted the corresponding message on Telegram after a phone conversation with the head of the White House.

"We discussed what can help bring peace closer now, and I informed the president about the latest events on the battlefield and how our position has strengthened. We agreed to discuss more during our meeting at the G7 summit," he wrote. "We have a few good ideas that can help bring peace and protect lives," the Ukrainian leader noted. "Ukraine and our defense, our ability to achieve peace will be among the main topics," Zelensky added in another post.

The conversation with Trump was described by the Ukrainian president as "wonderful." Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Trump on his 80th birthday. "We discussed many key issues in detail, including, of course, peace. I wished President Trump success, primarily in his efforts to end the war of Russia against Ukraine," the message continued.

The head of the Ukrainian state thanked the U.S. for the support it provides to Ukraine, stating, "It is important that we remember every step of this support with gratitude, from Javelin to Patriot," he noted.

"We talked about the war, its roots, and Crimea"

The Ukrainian leader specified that the politicians talked for a long time about "the war, its roots, diplomatic possibilities, and the positions of our partners." According to Zelensky, American society fully supports Ukraine's aspiration for a dignified peace - in defense against the war from the Russian Federation.

"And President Trump's words today were absolutely correct, particularly about our Crimea: it all started with Russia's seizure of Crimea, and if there had been strong leadership back then, there simply would not have been any war," the politician emphasized.

Ushakov: Putin called Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin also congratulated Trump on his 80th birthday, his assistant Yuri Ushakov reported. "The conversation was friendly and candid and lasted exactly 55 minutes," he noted.

According to Ushakov, the leaders discussed the international situation, issues of bilateral relations, and possible contacts between representatives of both countries. Putin also sent a congratulatory message. Trump stated that Putin was the first foreign leader to call him at the White House, Ushakov noted.

During the conversation, according to him, Trump again emphasized the need to end military actions. In this context, the assistant to the Russian president also mentioned the upcoming G7 summit. Donald Trump also said that "if the war is ended as soon as possible," then "prospects for building a truly new quality of U.S.-Russian relations will open up," Ushakov reported. Putin pointed out the strikes by Kyiv on facilities in Russia during the conversation.

Kremlin: Whitcoff and Kushner will fly to Russia

"It has been agreed that U.S. special representatives Steve Whitcoff and Jared Kushner, who are currently closely engaged in Iranian affairs, will return to Russia in the near future," the Kremlin's transcript states.

The situation surrounding a possible memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Iran was discussed. "Readiness to continue working for the stabilization of the situation and addressing deep-rooted issues that will still need to be seriously addressed was noted," Yuri Ushakov added, as quoted by 'Deutsche Welle'.
