Local residents found a drone that had washed ashore on the Black Sea coast of Turkey. After discovering ammunition on board, authorities evacuated the beach and began an investigation.
A drone with ammunition has been discovered on the Black Sea coast in Turkey. Specialists are currently investigating its origin and the circumstances under which the device ended up on Turkish shores.
According to the Turkish publication Yeni Şafak, local residents spotted the drone while walking on the beach. They immediately reported the find to law enforcement authorities.
After the security forces arrived, the area was cordoned off, and the beach was completely evacuated due to concerns about a possible explosion.
The incident occurred at Kapısuyu Beach in the Kuruçay district, located on the border of the Bartın and Kastamonu provinces in northern Turkey.
According to law enforcement, the drone was carrying military-grade ammunition that remained active. Bomb disposal experts and law enforcement personnel were dispatched to the scene.
An investigation is currently underway to determine where the device came from and how it ended up in Turkey's territorial waters.
This is not the first such incident in the region. In May, Greek authorities launched an investigation after a maritime drone, which media reports suggested could be a Ukrainian Magura V5 drone, was discovered near the island of Lefkada.
Later, the Ukrainian side apologized to Greece regarding this incident. The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the occurrence was a result of circumstances related to the ongoing war and Russian aggression against the country.
The discovery off the Turkish coast has once again drawn attention to the risks associated with the proliferation of drone systems in the Black Sea region. Authorities are not making conclusions about the ownership of the device and its possible route until the investigation is completed.
