Chinese specialists have successfully conducted mass cloning of dairy goats for the first time. The experiment was carried out in Shaanxi province in the northwest of the country, reports English.News.
The project was carried out by a research group from Northwest A&F University. As a result of their work, scientists produced six cloned animals — four males and two females. All of them were created using genetic material from elite goats with high productivity.
For the experiment, specialists used a modern molecular selection system that combines genomic selection and somatic cell cloning technology. Researchers were able to accurately isolate quality cells and improve key stages of the procedure, which led to the successful completion of serial cloning.
Scientists believe that the new technology will significantly accelerate the animal breeding process and reduce the intervals between generations. According to the research group, the application of such methods in the future could play an important role in ensuring food security.
