The U.S. Hopes to Convince China to Play a More Active Role in the Situation with Iran

Marco Rubio stated that Washington is counting on a more active role from China in resolving the situation around the Strait of Hormuz. According to the head of American diplomacy, Iran's actions threaten the stability of global energy resource supplies and could impact the economy of Asia.

The U.S. hopes to achieve more active actions from China regarding the resumption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, said U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in an interview with Fox News.

"We hope to convince them to play a more active role in getting Iran to stop what they are currently doing in the Persian Gulf," Rubio stated.

He noted that Iran's behavior is a "huge source of instability."

In his opinion, Tehran's actions "threaten to destabilize Asia more than any other part of the world because it is largely dependent on energy supplies through the straits."

Rubio also claims that China has economic interests in resuming shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, as if other countries face difficulties, "they will buy less Chinese products."

"Resolving this issue is in their interest," concluded the U.S. Secretary of State.

Trump and Xi Jinping Talks

The statement from the head of the State Department came amid Donald Trump's visit to China, where negotiations with Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to begin on Thursday.

One of the key topics of the meeting is expected to be the situation in the Middle East, including the security of maritime energy resource supplies through the Persian Gulf.

In the editorial's view, Washington is increasingly trying to involve Beijing in addressing global crises related to security and world trade. The situation around the Strait of Hormuz demonstrates how closely intertwined geopolitics, energy, and the economic interests of the world's major powers are today.
