In the night from Wednesday to Thursday, Russian forces attacked Kyiv with drones and ballistic missiles. Fires broke out in several districts of the Ukrainian capital, residential buildings were destroyed, and there are casualties and injuries.
The Russian armed forces launched a massive airstrike on Kyiv on Thursday morning. According to Ukrainian authorities, the attack was carried out simultaneously with drones and ballistic missiles.
“Enemy strikes on Kyiv are being carried out with drones and ballistic missiles,” said the mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko.
During the attack, explosions were heard in various districts of the city, while air defense forces continued their work over the capital.
As a result of falling debris and impacts, fires and destruction occurred, LETA reports. In the Dnipro district, the roof of a five-story residential building caught fire. In the Holosiivskyi district, debris fell onto the road. In the Obolon district, a business center and an apartment on the 12th floor of a residential building were damaged. In the Solomianskyi district, a car caught fire in a parking lot.
The most severe situation developed in the Darnytsia district, where the structures of a residential building collapsed after the strike. According to the city military administration, people were trapped under the rubble.
The head of the Kyiv city military administration, Tymur Tkachенко, reported that at least one person was killed in the attack, and another 16 were injured.
In recent weeks, Kyiv has been facing more intense combined attacks, where drones and missiles are used simultaneously. This tactic complicates the work of air defense systems and increases the risk of destruction in the city.
During the attack, the Ukrainian Air Force warned of new missiles approaching the capital. There were also reports of ongoing movements of strike drones towards Kyiv and other regions of the country.
Air raid alerts in the morning were not only in the capital but also in several other regions of Ukraine.
Amid ongoing strikes, Ukrainian authorities are once again urging Western allies to expedite the supply of air defense systems and munitions for them.
Kyiv remains one of the main targets of Russian airstrikes since the beginning of the full-scale war, but in recent months, the intensity of nighttime strikes has noticeably increased.
