The cruise ship Hondius with nearly 150 people arrived at the Spanish island of Tenerife, where the evacuation of passengers began. Three people died as a result of the hantavirus outbreak on board the liner.

The cruise liner MV Hondius, where a deadly hantavirus outbreak took place, arrived at the port of Granadilla de Abona on the island of Tenerife on Sunday, May 10, under the escort of a Spanish Civil Guard ship. There were about 150 people on board.

Starting at 8:00 local time, passengers and some crew members began to be transported to shore by boats, after which they will be taken to airplanes for their return home. Most of the people on board are citizens of European Union countries, the United Kingdom, and the United States. There are also several Germans among the passengers.

At the insistence of local authorities, the vessel is not entering the port but is anchored off the coast. Some crew members will remain on board and later travel with the ship to the Netherlands. The shipowner is the Dutch company Oceanwide Expeditions.
