The emaciated husky, found in Florida thousands of kilometers from home, was able to reunite with her owner after 12 years of separation thanks to an implanted electronic microchip.

"Thirteen-year-old husky named Sierra has been reunited with her owner more than ten years after her disappearance thanks to a microchip," reports People magazine.

The animal went missing in 2014 during a man's move from New Mexico to Texas. After 12 years of wandering the streets, the dog was rescued by shelter workers in Florida. The distance from the place of disappearance to the point of discovery was over 2,200 kilometers.

Sierra was found in very poor condition; however, the staff scanned the implanted chip and promptly contacted the owner. The man had long since given up hope of seeing his pet again, but ultimately he successfully brought the husky home.
