Artificial Intelligence Has ‘Reached’ Medical Documents

Patients have already begun receiving AI-processed medical conclusions.

Doctors in Russia have been 'caught' using ChatGPT in treatment. This became known thanks to a letter from the Ministry of Health of the Nizhny Novgorod region to subordinate institutions. They noted that emojis are increasingly appearing in electronic medical documents that residents of Nizhny Novgorod receive on the State Services portal after visiting a doctor, which the Ministry of Health deemed unacceptable.

"We looked at the list of emojis and understood where it comes from. These are typical symbols used by ChatGPT, i.e., someone among the doctors is formulating texts of protocols and conclusions with the help of neural networks," commented Alexey Nikонов, the editor-in-chief of the medical information agency 'Statsionar-Press'.

Nikонов's publication conducted a survey of local doctors, and about 20% of them confirmed that they regularly use the chatbot in their work, while another 30% 'would like to do so but do not know how'. "There is nothing wrong with this if AI algorithms take on routine tasks while the doctor controls the result," states the editor-in-chief of 'Statsionar-Press'.

AI in the Russian healthcare system has gained widespread use against the backdrop of a growing shortage of doctors, notes The Moscow Times. Earlier, authorities announced plans to implement artificial intelligence in the operations of state medical institutions by the end of 2026. It is expected that AI will process research data and all electronic medical records of Russians.
