A teacher from the city of Serres in northern Greece has been sentenced to 24 months in prison through an automatic procedure after taping a middle school student's mouth shut during a lesson.
The complaint came from one of the parents.
According to reports, a 60-year-old teacher, who is also the school principal, admitted that she taped a student's mouth shut because he was very disobedient, and that she did it for fun, and the student did not protest.
She stated that she left the classroom for a few minutes, and when she returned, she found that the boy's hands were taped, indicating that it was the work of another student.
A case was opened against the teacher for unlawful violence and causing bodily harm to vulnerable individuals. Subsequently, the teacher filed an appeal and was released. The sentence of 24 months in prison can be commuted to a fine of 10 euros per day.
The Ministry of Education was informed of the incident and stated that the circumstances of the incident are being thoroughly investigated.
