UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has informed close friends of his intention to leave the position of head of government and is already discussing a possible timeline for his departure. This was reported by the Daily Mail.
According to the publication, Starmer is reportedly aware of the political situation and believes that further stability in the government is becoming unstable. One representative of the British government noted that the Prime Minister wants to "leave with dignity" and determine the timing of his resignation himself.
At the same time, sources from the Daily Mail claim that the exact date of a possible announcement is still unknown. Some high-ranking allies of Starmer are urging him not to take hasty steps and to wait for the first results of polls and vote counting in the by-elections in Makerfield.
In particular, former chief of staff to the Prime Minister, Morgan McSweeney, is reportedly insisting that Starmer should "hold on," as the results of the vote could give him a chance to maintain leadership. However, according to one of the Prime Minister's supporters, Starmer is not willing to take risks and wait for the election results.
Earlier, Keir Starmer publicly stated that he does not intend to step down, despite the Labour Party's defeat in local elections and increasing internal pressure. Amid the political crisis, Health Minister Wes Streeting has already left the government, citing a loss of trust in the Prime Minister. According to media reports, he may also be vying for party leadership in the event of an internal party struggle.
