At least 16 U.S. states have declared a state of emergency due to a winter storm.
According to CNN, the list includes Delaware, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, New York, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, and Kansas.
The state of emergency has also been signed by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, and Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser.
Snow and ice have begun in the south-central part of the U.S. According to the National Weather Service, the storm will affect an area stretching over 2,000 miles from Texas to New England over the weekend.
Emergency services have been mobilized and snow removal equipment has been deployed in preparation for the storm.
Amid the inclement weather, the number of canceled flights in the U.S. continues to rise. According to FlightAware, over 3,250 flights were canceled on January 24, and more than 5,900 on Sunday.
