Most air travelers are already well acquainted with the rules regarding the transport of liquids and food in hand luggage. However, one little-known rule concerning electronic devices may cause travelers significant problems during airport security checks.
As reported by The Mirror, all airlines allow certain electronic devices to be carried in hand luggage, including mobile phones, laptops, and tablets. However, if any of these devices have a dead battery, airport security personnel may prohibit the passenger from taking it on board if they cannot turn on the gadget.
The official website of the UK government states: "Ensure that your electronic devices are charged before traveling. If a device does not turn on when requested, you will not be allowed to take it with you on the plane."
If a traveler finds themselves in an unfortunate situation, leaving an uncharged item in their bag, their actions will depend on the country of departure and the airline they are flying with. One option is to check the gadget as registered baggage.
Another option is to leave the gadget in a storage locker at the airport until their return. However, this is quite a risky option and is suitable only for those who plan to return to that airport soon.
