The authorities of Uzbekistan are preparing to reduce more than 2,000 officials by the end of October, which will be the result of the implementation of AI systems in the government apparatus. This follows from a decree published in the national legislation database, signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, titled "On measures to optimize the number of managerial positions through the widespread implementation of digitalization in the activities of republican executive authorities."

According to the document, a total of 2,141 positions will be eliminated in the executive authorities of the republic. The largest number of positions will be cut in the Tax Committee of Uzbekistan — 498 positions. The Ministry of Water Resources will lose 224 positions, the Ministry of Agriculture will be reduced by 200, and the Ministry of Justice will eliminate 197 positions. The Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change will see a reduction of 176 positions, while the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction will cut 163 positions.

In addition, the number of deputy heads will be reduced almost by half: from 11 to 7 in committees, from 12 to 6 in agencies, and from 13 to 7 in inspections.

The Ministry of Employment and the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan are instructed to assist in the employment of employees who are being laid off, according to the decree.

In April, the head of the Russian Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, stated that AI is capable of replacing half of the officials, although he did not specify when this might happen. "We are simple officials, formatted... We hope that it will not replace humans, especially doctors and teachers. Officials? I believe that it can definitely replace half of the officials. Maybe a little more," Shadayev said at the Data Forum.

Six months later, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin hastened to assure that AI systems will not be able to replace Russian deputies, as artificial intelligence "lacks conscience and responsibility."
