Manchester: Two Injured in Synagogue Attack Have Died

First, pedestrians heading to the synagogue on Yom Kippur were struck, and then there was a knife attack.

According to police, at least four people were injured in the attack on the synagogue in Manchester. Two of them died in the hospital. Law enforcement agencies reported that the suspect was shot. The number of injured and the severity of their injuries have not yet been specified.

Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham stated that this was a "serious incident" that was handled "effectively" by the police and those present at the scene.

The attack occurred at a time when the Jewish community is observing Yom Kippur: many believers go to synagogues and commemorate this day with fasting.

At 9:31 AM British time, police received reports that a vehicle had driven into pedestrians outside the Hiton Park Jewish community synagogue, and one person had sustained stab wounds.

Soon after, security personnel and medics arrived at the scene. They found four injured individuals. According to law enforcement representatives, the injuries were sustained both from the vehicle collision and from stab wounds.

The police announced the implementation of Operation Plato. This is a set of emergency response measures for large-scale incidents, including terrorist attacks. In such cases, emergency services, such as ambulances, begin to follow protocols.

The head of the British government, Keir Starmer, said he was shocked by the attack on the synagogue. "My thoughts are with the loved ones of all the victims, and I express my gratitude to the emergency services and all the rescuers," the Prime Minister emphasized.
