Today, the government decided to redistribute funds in the budget of the Ministry of Culture (KM), directing additional financing to increase the salaries of employees of cultural heritage institutions.
The Ministry of Culture explains that the need for funding is related to the fact that the participation of employees of cultural heritage institutions in crisis management, civil protection, and cybersecurity tasks goes beyond their original job responsibilities. Employees must ensure the preservation of cultural values in conditions of increased security risks, implement preventive and operational measures, maintain the continuity of institutional operations, and protect digital resources.
The ministry believes that to accomplish these tasks, motivate employees, and retain specialists, it is necessary to increase wages, aligning them with the actual workload, level of responsibility, and risks. Furthermore, the KM notes that the average salary of employees in cultural heritage institutions significantly lags behind the average salary in the public sector in 2025, despite the high demands placed on archivists, librarians, museum, and other specialists.
To increase salaries, it is planned to redistribute €1,187,946 from expenditures on goods and services to the wage fund of cultural heritage institutions. The funds will be allocated as follows:
